The other day I was talking to my publicist friend about an upcoming trip of hers, and she was like, "I will check Twitter for hotel deals." Now I tweet for Hospitality Design, and have been testing out the world that is called Twitter for the past few months, but my first instinct would not be to go to Twitter for hotel deals. Maybe I am not with it as others are (my publicist friend is a social media fanatic), but I just wouldn't of thought of Twitter as the best place to find the best rates at hotels.
Turns out, I may be wrong. Some hotel companies have Twitter-only deals. Others just post their website deals on Twitter to attract users to their homepage. And I have heard stories of people who have twittered from their hotel rooms and as a result, have gotten upgraded and free schwag. Makes sense.
A quick search found three nights for the price of two at the new La Renaissance from Design Hotels. At the Andaz West Hollywood, a retweet gets you your first $7 drink free tonight. Last weekend, if you follow Kimpton Hotels and you were checking into one of their hotels, you would have known to use the password "fireworks" at check-in to get a surprise. And at the Hilton Sandestin, you get 25 percent off when you book now.
And that search literally took three minutes. Who knows what else is out there. Kind of exciting if you ask me!
