Here are some of Nancy's insights on this year's HD Expo, held in Las Vegas from May 15th to 17th:
In May, we exhibited at HD Expo and were impressed by the energy that the design community brought to the show. We feel a positive, cultural shift in hospitality. Designers are excited about their projects, and properties at all levels – from two-star to Waldorf Astoria – are refreshing their brands.
For the first time in years, it’s not just renovations. A number of new concepts are being introduced to the market (like a project that we recently worked on earlier this year, the Tryp Times Square South). Industry-wide, we’re hearing a need for new concepts that provide escapism in hospitality.
At our booth, we hosted a ten-minute trend conversation called WHAT’S NEXT Live. There, I interviewed David Ashen of D-ash Design, a New York-based firm whose work is known for context and reinvention. David and I agreed on the most important trends impacting our industry: local sensibility, authenticity, and “wow” factor. These trends create a sense of escape and make the guest feel that they’re in a place that is completely unique.
Hospitality design is about pushing the envelope. We showed designers a wide range of new and inspiring material ideas. We are excited to collaborate with them and to get surprised by the unexpected and unique pairings that they come up with as these trends continue to evolve!
