On a recent trip to Lima, one of the highlights for me (the downside, fyi, was charming Cusco, where the extreme altitude difference spawned a duo of ear infections) was a visit to the Museo Larco. Tucked away in an intimate 18th-century mansion, it flaunts myriad artifacts from ancient Peru. There are vast collections of silver, gold, and pottery, as well as a storage area teeming with archaelogical wonders. A gallery of erotic ceramics is another fascinating surprise. With those lush gardens in the background, I could have wandered the grounds—and avoided the city’s ghastly traffic—for hours.
