We’re 13 days way from HD Expo at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, but we’ve been working on the show for months—since last year’s show ended.
For the past few months I, myself, have been involved in a little show prep, working with Morgans Hotel Group and our exhibitors on planning the HD Social Hub—in Booth #1955 if you want to stop by for a respite from the show floor.
It was my first foray as a point person responsible for managing the HD team’s intentions, Morgans’ vision (which is inspired by the group’s design for the new Delano Mandalay Bay), and what our exhibitors had available to share with us. While I was nervous at first about how things would come together in a few months, my apprehension was for naught. We are lucky enough to have some of the best brands and designers contribute their bespoke products for the booth, including Restoration Hardware, Durkan, Valley Forge Fabrics, D’Style, Arteriors, Palecek, Design Within Reach, Kalisher, and Bernhardt.
And if you know Morgans, you know you can expect an elegant, seamless design with dark colors, wood, metal accents, and a warm, inviting vibe.
I’ll be headed to Vegas in a few days to be the conduit between retrieving the product and helping Morgans execute their design however I can. The one thing I have done: claim a few chairs that will be perfect for sneaking in a quick sedentary session. But that’s not all the Social Hub will be offering; industry experts will also be around for 30-minute one-on-one sessions during the show.
And it’s not just the Social Hub that HD has on the agenda, we also want to engage our show attendees in other ways:
- The HD Expo show is the ideal opportunity to flex those creative muscles in the Creativity Center at Booth #2011. Legos aren’t only for kids, and now is your chance to see what you can do with our architectural blocks. If building doesn’t intrigue you, spend time at the chalkboard, where you have the freedom to draw or write whatever inspires you. My go-to drawing is a self portrait (a stick figure with curly hair), so keep an eye out for that.
- Also join our Fitbit group, and count your steps while at the show. The show is huge with hundreds of exhibitors, so covering the massive area during the show will be daunting but doable. Check the display at the entrance to follow the group’s progress: www.fitbit.com/group/224PL6; Group name: HD Expo 2014 on the Move
This is my first HD Expo, and I’m feeling the appropriate amount of nerves and excitement. I hope to see you at the Social Hub, at the Creativity Corner (I will try to coerce you into a game of hangman), or walking around the show—I may need someone to carry my bag, so I’ll welcome the company.
