SLS Las Vegas Ups the Ante

Last week I traveled to Las Vegas to participate in a panel at the Business of Luxury Design (BOLD) Summit (stay tuned for more on that in a later post) and was excited to have the opportunity while in town to also check out the Strip’s most anticipated offering—SLS Las Vegas, which celebrated its grand opening the weekend of August 23rd.

The opening of the latest from global hospitality brand sbe has been on our radar for months as we eagerly anticipated the design details. I had heard its aesthetic was an interesting mix—the joint vision of sbe founder, chairman, and CEO Sam Nazarian and designer Philippe Starck in collaboration with Gensler—that built on the bones of the former Sahara Hotel & Casino (the $415 million renovation was interiors only), which opened in 1952 and was somewhat of a mecca for Los Angeles celebrities visiting Sin City in the ’70s and ’80s, with an at times tongue-in-cheek, eclectic interior design that is at once quite varied and perfectly cohesive.

Here are just a few photos of the property, but stay tuned for more HD coverage of the development and design of SLS Las Vegas in a future issue.
