HD Expo: The Final Countdown

Posted by on April 27, 2016 in Uncategorized

It’s a little crazy to think that by this time next week, HD Expo—May 4-6th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas—will be kicking off. If you’re still planning your agenda (no judgment—we’re definitely not immune to busy schedules and procrastination around here either) here are a few options we recommend you work into your itinerary:

Wed, May 4th

High Seas Design

Adam D. Tihany, Founder, Tihany Design

Thomas Weigend, Director, Meyer Werft

Orlando Ashford, President, Holland America Line

The number of cruise ship passengers reached approximately 23 million in 2015, up from 17.8 million per year in 2009, according to Cruise Lines International Association. Naturally, cruise lines are introducing new ships to their fleets to accommodate the swell. With seven ships added last year, and 15 more in the pipeline for this year and next, many—including a number of luxury offerings—are crafted by world-class hospitality designers. For the first-ever cruise ship panel conversations at HD Expo, join Holland America Group CEO Stein Kruse, designer Adam D. Tihany, who recently crafted the majority of public spaces on Holland America’s new pinnacle class, ms Koningsdam, launching this spring, and Thomas Weigend of leading shipbuilding company Meyer Werft, as they discuss the impact of design in the cruise industry and what this shift in significance means for the overall cruise experience, not only for today’s traveler, but for the future of cruising.

Thurs, May 5th

9 a.m.

Due South

Leo Eskenazi, Senior Director of Design, Latin America and the Caribbean, Hilton Worldwide

Rodrigo Tsutsmui, Regional Director of Latin America, Preferred Hotels and Resorts

Meghann Day, Principal, HBA

Marco Roca, Executive VP, Global Development, Hotels, Hard Rock International

South America offers a rich terrain of hospitality possibilities, but still remains challenging and untapped by many major hotel companies. Focusing on several major countries, the panelists will explore current and future plans for development in these culturally rich destinations, with a special focus on Rio de Janeiro in light of the upcoming Summer Olympics.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Expo (or Vegas, really) without the partying, and we’ve got a couple of our signature parties to kick your evenings off. The Opening Night Party (sponsored by Aceray and Speakman) on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. is at Omnia Nightclub at Caesars Palace; and Thursday’s annual Party by the Pool has a new location—at MGM’s Wet Republic, and is also from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (Thanks to sponsors Bostik, Nanotex, Crypton, OW Hospitality, and DLR Group.) Be sure to get your tickets as these events tend to sell out!

See you in Vegas!
