7 Showstoppers from the HD Expo Floor

Posted by on May 10, 2017 in Events, Products

We’re a week out of HD Expo, and we’re still coming down from that tradeshow high. This year the floor was buzzing, conference sessions were packed, and our keynote session featuring industry legends Steve Wynn and Roger Thomas was standing room only. Not to mention, the HD team took a field trip to see our living queen Britney Spears perform (complete with souvenir cups).

It was a good week in Vegas and, luckily for you, the editors at HD don’t prescribe to the “what happens here, stays here” Las Vegas ethos. During our time on the show floor, we spotted some innovative products. Here are seven of our favorites:

1. LED Cloud from Astele
It’s refreshing when a product stands out on the show floor in a way that makes you think “I get it.” The fixture comprises only two materials—mesh wire and smalls LEDs—but it leaves a very sophisticated, fantastical impression. – Will Speros, online editor

2. Cala from Kettal
I’ve been seeing this chair pop up around the internet for a while, and in person it’s as luxurious and meticulously crafted as I had hoped (the woven back is stunning). Of course, with Doshi Levien (a favorite design duo of mine) at the helm, it’s not a surprise. – Alissa Ponchione, managing editor

3. Kevin Barry Fine Art
One of the best booths (literally, it won our Best of Show award). The exterior welcomed visitors with its pink neon “Hello Gorgeous” sign on banana leaf-clad walls and was instantly shareable. But inside, the art highlighted some of the most popular themes in hospitality, with tropical vibes throughout, notably in flamingo wallcovering and pineapple artwork. – Alissa Ponchione, managing editor

4. Ura from Arturo Alvarez
There’s something that feels natural about the Ura like it could illuminate a campground and still feel like part of the surroundings. The warm, translucent glow gets the job done, without overpowering the senses. – Matt Dougherty, associate editor

5.  Active from Shaw Hospitality Group
The fashion industry’s athleisure trend crosses over to hospitality with this collection of geometric designs. Shades of gray with pops of tangerine created an eye-catching blend. – Jennifer Young, associate editor

6+7. Mirrors from Munnworks and Global Views
The gilded Vienna mirror by designer Alex Woogmaster for Munnworks was beautiful with  soft lighting on the sides, along with the gold border that gave off a warm and glamorous touch. Meanwhile, the gold-finished Halo Sculptures from Global Views were impactful and a cool accent piece. – Paulina Glozman, editorial events coordinator
