Last year, we decided to take a chance and try our hand at Facebook Live. We thought, we have this incredible platform to share the stories of the designs we showcase in our magazine with a wider audience, why not show our readers what it’s like to walk through the actual space? Thus, the idea took shape and we invited Kemper Hyers, senior vice president of of Starwood Capital, to talk about the beautiful and opulent Baccarat Hotel with editor in chief Stacy Shoemaker Rauen.
Soon, we were traveling to the West Village to check out the Printing House with Workshop/APD; NoMad to look at the Arlo with AvroKO; Brooklyn’s hip Dumbo neighborhood to see Mark Zeff’s industrial chic offices and Blackbarn retail space; Union Square to explore the new Union Square Cafe with Rockwell Group; and most recently to Wimberly Interiors‘ 50 Bowery hotel. The team here at HD—after sifting through quite literally hundreds of products for our soon-to-be-debuted August products issue—are enamored with a few of the industry’s current trends. In the issue, we take you on a tour of products inspired by nature, made of mixed materials, with bold colors, and shooting for the stars. But these are hardly the only en vogue movements we’re seeing right now, so here are three more to keep an eye out for.
1. Traditional Plaids
Traditional plaids have never not been classic, but Valley Forge’s Manor Check brings a contemporary feel with its oversized repeat, available in seven different colorways. But textiles and fabrics aren’t the only place to find this eye-catching repeat. THG Paris’ West Coast faucet features inlays within the handles in either black or white onyx to form a calculated pattern.
