Cake Off

Marking its second year, architecture firms from across the New York area battled it out in the kitchen for Wimberly Interiors and WATG‘s Great Architectural Bake-off at the Center of Architecture, where they showcased their endless creativity, talent, baking skills, and perseverance in the final moments of the competition.

Ten designs firms including Dattner Architects, Davis Brody Bond, ZGF Architects, H3 Architects, Woods Bagot, Grade New York, Bespoke Careers, MADE, Hollwich Kushner, and sponsor Wimberly Interiors put on their aprons and hit the ovens and countertops (many mastered fondant as well) to craft architectural masterpieces in cake form.

Along with decadent designs including the Pennovation Center in Philadelphia (originally designed by Hollwich Kushner and KSS Architects), the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing (from Herzog & de Mueron), and New York’s Guggenheim Museum (from Frank Lloyd Wright), a few sweet confections stood out.

It was the reproduction of David Adjaye’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC from Davis Brody Bond that took the top honors. Continue reading →
